What counts as cheap web hosting in India?

For this comparison, cheap means shared hosting plans starting under Rs 500 a month on a one-year term. These are the plans aimed at first websites, small business sites and blogs, rather than VPS or dedicated servers.

We compare the actual public price, the renewal price, and measured performance side by side, rather than ranking plans on the advertised introductory price alone. A plan that starts cheap and renews at three times the rate is not cheap, and a plan that is cheap but slow for Indian visitors is not good value either.

Cheap hosting in India: what the data shows

In HostLatency’s Mumbai monitoring over the last 90 days for 6 hosts, BigRock recorded the fastest response time and uptime of 99.97% uptime. MilesWeb has the lowest starting price at Rs 189 a month, and the lowest long-term rate at Rs 99 a month on a three-year term. Bluehost recorded the fewest downtime incidents.

The two hosts serving India from Singapore, Namecheap and GoDaddy, were between two and three times slower than the Mumbai-hosted plans. Across all six hosts, renewal prices were between 50% and 100% higher than the first-year price.

The renewal trap: nearly every budget host roughly doubles at renewal. MilesWeb starts lowest, but always read the renewal column before you commit, because that is the price you pay for most of the years you own the site.

What about the Rs 30 to 99 web hosting plans you see advertised?

You will see hosts advertising very low prices, sometimes Rs 30 to 99 a month. Two honest things to know before you choose one.

Those headline prices usually need a long commitment

The lowest advertised rate is often the price on a 3, 4, or 5-year upfront plan, not a monthly or yearly rate. Paid for a single year, the real price is higher. Always check the term the price applies to.

Very cheap shared plans share a server with many more accounts

Shared hosting places multiple websites on the same server, so CPU, memory, storage and other resources are shared. How those resources are allocated varies by provider and plan. At very low prices, resource limits can be tighter, so check the plan’s stated limits before buying. It is a trade-off, not a fault, and it is worth understanding before you buy.

Some genuinely low-cost hosts are not on our list yet, simply because we have not independently measured them. Our rule is that nothing appears here without real monitoring behind it. Does an Indian data centre matter for low cost hosting?

Yes, more than almost anything else at this price. A server in Singapore or the US adds 200 to 300ms of latency for Indian visitors, which shows up directly in the response time we measure. In our data, the hosts serving India from Singapore were clearly the slowest. If your visitors are in India, an Indian data centre is the single biggest speed lever an inexpensive plan can give you.

One thing worth being clear about: TTFB measures how quickly the server begins responding. It is not the complete page-load experience, which also depends on your theme, plugins, images, code, and the visitor’s own network and browser. A fast host gives you a good starting point, not a fast site on its own.

What should budget web hosting still include?

Even on a budget, insist on free SSL, cPanel or a similar control panel, SSD or NVMe storage, enough bandwidth for your traffic, one-click WordPress, and daily backups.
